Do You Think You Posses Too Much Stuff?

Too Much Stuff

Too much of anything can be a bad thing.
Although for some this might sound like an oxymoron, the reality is you can even have too much stuff.
So get rid of it!
I went through this process two years ago.
I got rid of many, many items.
And to be honest, I’m still not where I want to be, but I’ve made great strides already.

You might want to keep some things for sentimental reasons only known to yourself. And that’s ok.
Think what you can miss before deciding what you want to trash, sell or give away.

In fact, this is the first step to minimalism!

Minimalists know that the more you cut back on unnecessary ‘stuff’ and clutter, the less stress you have and the freer you become. You can appreciate the few items that matter to you.

But what is ‘too much’? Walk through this checklist and find out if you fall into this category.

You dread even the thought of cleaning surfaces

Isn’t it time you dusted those shelves in your bedroom?
If the very notion of that makes you feel uncomfortable, then you have too much on that surface. It should only take a couple of seconds to wipe down a surface.
Otherwise, you’ll spend your whole life tidying!

You’re considering moving to larger apartment to fit your things in

Too Much Stuff

A lot of us do this without a second thought.
But if you plan to buy an entirely new house just to store more of your items, then this is something of a worrying sign.
You should be able to store everything you own in a small flat – let alone a house!

But the thought of moving to a larger space is terrifying

Think about moving right now.
Would you be able to do that on your own without too much stress?
Or would your only option be to spend a lot of money on a removal firm?
If the latter is true, then it is apparent that your possessions are limiting your freedom.
I firmly believe your belongings shouldn’t trap you in one part of the world!

Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to go wherever the wind takes you?

You have boxes under your bed and in the wardrobe

This may not sound like a big deal, but it has a big psychological impact on how spacious and large a room feels.
Space in your home is essential to let it breathe, and this is a vital area that you should prioritize.

You can’t visualize what’s filling your home

Run through everything you own in your head.
If you find this too difficult or you miss out scores of things, then apparently you have more stuff than you can keep track of. It’s time for some of it to go!
